I’ve been a patient close to 9 years. Dr. Fisher truly has changed my life for the better (which is the only reason I gave one star.)
My medical situation is diff than most due to my disease being so rare and complex not one Dr in SD will treat me. The hospital in LA that diagnosed me will no longer treat adults with the disease. My medical history is quite extensive, including with over 30 surgeries and 4 chronic illnesses branching from my disorder. It is almost impossible to find a medical professional who is not just knowledgeable but actively treats other patients successfully with the disorder.
The current staffing this year makes it extremely hard to maintain my strict regimens that literally make me able-bodied. It is now impossible to schedule with my actual pain specialist always getting told I HAVE to book with the PA’s. I do not even remember the last time I saw Dr. Fisher, guessing 6 or 7 months now which is odd considering I’m there every 4 weeks. After seeing 3 different PA’s I finally found one lady who understands me. Unfortunately they booked me with another NEW PA for my next appt. I’m officially SO sick of it. The PA’ s show up with little to no knowledge even though they have full access to my history, only one of them ever took the time to educate herself on my behalf.
The last 4 appts have been odd b/c I’ve had to call and confirm my own appts. Recently, 1 of them I was in the car on my way and had a weird feeling, so I called the office. They told “no it’s tomorrow.” I had a babysitter for my toddler and everything arranged. So I show up the next day and 3 patients in waiting room also had the same issue, booked for another day. The receptionist said something about issues regarding the PA’s schedules between all of office locations, and even though someone redid the appointments no one called the patients.
Today I had a very important injection which my body physically depends on. Legit can barely get off the floor or out of a chair because my back has gotten that bad… Of course, no one called to confirm it nor go over the “mandatory guidelines.” I got to my appt early for my sedative, but 15 min AFTER my procedure is scheduled to start I get told the injection won’t happen due to an antibiotic in my system. And of course it gets pushed back another 2 months because of the schedule!!! They did add me on the cancellation list, as the 4th person in line… My husband took a half day off work to drive me and take care of our toddler, and will get repeated in 2 months.
Since all the voicemails and phone-notes go through the staff and not directly to the Dr, this is the only a loyal patient can deal with any issue at hand… If this all continues then I will have no choice but to execute my efforts to find a new pain specialist, which would be very unfortunate and honestly the last thing I want to do.
