Dr. Pete…Not such a ”Meaney!”
As I was recently visiting Lynn from Myrtle Beach SC to pay respects to the family of a close childhood friend of mine who had passed rather suddenly, I was introduced to Dr. Meaney by another close friend of mine. In conversation, I learned that at his young age, he had served in the military, gone to dental school, opened a blossoming dental practice and became a city counselor in Lynn with aspirations of becoming a state representative! Impressed by those achievements and his vision for the future of Massachusetts I mentioned that I wished I had met him years ago and I would have had him look at a nagging broken tooth that I had. I was told by my dentist in Myrtle Beach that it was identical to the one on the other side of my lower jaw that he had pulled recently and that this one would also need to be pulled and couldn’t be saved. I didn’t want to undergo that procedure because I was afraid that I would have trouble chewing. I have trouble on the other side and didn’t want to be in a position where I couldn’t chew on either side comfortably. Dr. Meaney suggested that I come in early the next morning and he would look at it to see if there was anything he could do. He scheduled me immediately for the next morning before his practice actually opened and instructed his staff to take an x-ray. I was really impressed with this because he knew I was on a time constraint and was going home to Myrtle Beach soon. After looking at the x-ray, he said “Yep, I can fix this!” I was flabbergasted by this. Anyways, his wonderful assistant took multiple x-rays with what looked like a toothbrush with a camera On it. Then he got on his computer and designed a crown for me. Then his sophisticated equipment 3-D printed me a crown for my tooth. He placed it in my hand and said “Here it is.” I said “Are you kidding me?” He said “Nope. That’s it!” He then Instructed his assistant to dry my existing tooth completely, they added a special glue, snapped the new crown in just like a puzzle piece and then cured it with ultraviolet light. He then proceeded to make some adjustments so that I could floss and said that I was “all set!” I was so happy and upset at the same time. Now I’m able to chew on that side Without any issues and I think about this and am thankful for his professionalism every time I eat. On the other side of my jaw where I still have a missing tooth, I am always reminded that you should get a second opinion. After my appointment with Dr. Meaney I told him that He was now my new dentist. He scheduled an appointment for me to come back in October for a cleaning. I know this is a long review, but I cannot stress enough how great he and his staff were. Highly recommended! On a side note, I heard about his philanthropic endeavors as well. He travels a couple of times of year outside of the country to perform dental work on people who do not have the means or access to proper dental health. All of this, from just a regular guy from Lynn. I’m proud to know him.
