I have been seeing Dr. Estepp for 10 years now and she is very friendly and comfortable to have annual exams done with. However, I have had 3 Nexplanon implants and complained of symptoms for years now...not having a cycle for 3 months then spotting for 20+ days straight, bloating, acne, fatigue and extremely low libido. She would tell me, "well you're older now, it happens" or "you've been with your partner a long time, this is just what happens" and encouraged me to stick with the Nexplanon. I will say that there could have been a time that she recommended an IUD or pills but those don't agree with my body either, so I stuck it out.
I had my Nexplanon implant removed 2 weeks ago and have become a different person in the best way within a matter of days. No afternoon slump/fatigue throughout the day, my skin is clearing up, I'm not bloated, not moody and my sex drive is back full force. I've made a complete 180. I didn't realize how miserable I was or that the Nexplanon was causing these issues. I feel silly in hindsight for not listening to my body, but I'd had the implant for so long with minimal issues in the first few years that I really believed that I was just getting older and that's what life is like. I'm 27!!!
I am really just here to share my experience because I know other women out there must feel this way, and I found that Dr. Estepp was rather dismissive of my concerns, albeit friendly.
Over the years the scheduling has become extremely difficult, and I haven't gotten the usual reminders for my annual exams though my contact info never changed. The nurses do not call you back anymore after going through all of the many prompts to leave a voicemail expressing concerns with your health. I just feel that as this practice has grown the quality of service has gone down. I'm sure insurance billing and coding has changed and often works against them, but the appointments (when you can get them) feel so rushed and impersonal.
This is no slight at Dr. Estepp personally or the staff of Bartlett Womens clinic. I just felt the need to express my concerns to hopefully save someone who relates to me the trouble.
