I always choose my doctors based on level of experience first. I have to admit I was skeptical when my wife chose Dr. Maradani as our OB for the pregnancy and birth. Her staff seemed hurried and she didn’t really have the most top notch equipment.
However, I was put at ease by the tons of photos on the wall of all the babies delivered. I did some quick math based on her delivery rate and number of years practicing; we’re talking thousand and thousands of babies.
Honestly, her bedside manor reflects that experience. She is very direct, blunt, and will tell you straight up if your “birth plan” is realistic or not. She knows, nothing really goes according to plan. That’s why you want someone who knows what they’re doing in the midst of the chaos of birth.
And our birth was chaotic. 4 days of labor. My wife needed a special medication for her blood, the baby wouldn’t drop, when she did she had the cord wrapped around her neck, she wasn’t in the ideal position, etc etc. She was on top of it the entire time. Thank God I chose someone who knew what they were doing over someone with a flashy office and overly smiley staff.
Seriously… It’s a dramatic experience, it’s risky, and dangerous, choose someone competent.
