My wife and I had planned on birthing our child at a birthing center rather than a hospital because we'd wanted to be able to take a more natural approach than hospital's (most of the time) allow. However, due to unforeseen circumstances, we ended up having to come in to St Vincent's.
The nurses and staff were exceptionally helpful, kind, and accommodating. We were able have all of our natural birth plan desires met including: free movement during labor, no interventions, delayed cord clamping, immediate skin to skin, have a say in whether or not the baby received after birth shots and such, etc... Just a note for those who may be interested in a more natural approach to birth, just make sure that you have a plan, and are educated about your options prior to the birth. Then, just be ready to advocate for what you want. But this goes for anywhere you might want to give birth.
While we were there, two Lactation consultants whom the hospital keeps on staff came to visit. Both were awesome and the advice they provided made a big difference, even though we had done a lot of our own research and learning about breastfeeding prior to the birth.
Overall, I was very pleased with the quality of our stay. A few of the staff that stood out (and who's names I remember) were two of our nurses, Abbie and Michelle, as well as the second pediatrician we worked with, Dr. Nesbitt.
