On the much commented topic of "new policies" at costco, as perceived by customers of 20 yrs, in particular a first one for me at the Costco in Waltham MA, on July 2nd approx 11:30 am, at the exit.Coming from nearby MGH site, and going back there, I had my frozen items in insulated bags, with cooling packs. One of the employees of the 2 present at the exit to control receipts wanted to open all these bags and check each item, claiming this was the new policy. Now, firstly to be a policy it should be applied consistently, at every Costco by each employee, always. Instead in the case at hand only one employee was implementing this "policy". a policy not uniformly applied in space and time, meaning by everyone always, is not a policy and resembles more to an arbitrary decision of the employee. This was the first and only time I was submitted to this “policy” and I visit Costco say a couple of times per month.Secondly, no problems in checking items one by one by one, yet at the end of the "check" employee should put them back in the bag where she found them.Thirdly if that is not the case, then at the register at the very least the customer should be advised accordingly. Not everyone, always, has the time to go through the exercise I was put throughAnd finally all employees should be required to wear name tags (we do so in the hospital around the corner) the person that put me through this did not have her's since "it broke".Not a good show, nor a positive name recognition, we would expect more clarity upfront and appropriate employees training!
