FYI: Long review.
Review on Vox (as a whole, it’s a multi-site church): What drew me to Vox seven years ago is the same as why I’m still here today: it’s a church on mission. Specifically, to see New England transformed.
I attended a larger, single-site non-denominational church when I’d heard of the lead pastor (Justin) and how effective his preaching was. I started listening to sermons and attending the Hartford campus when I was at school at UConn. I loved what Vox (then City church) was all about - going after the city centers to reach and serve as many people as possible, and doing so in rented venues, etc to keep costs down.
Justin’s preaching is incredible - it’s modern and rooted in scripture, challenging yet filled with grace, and enlightening in that it always ties back to the Cross. Pastors Mike, Sean, Ryan W, etc are all incredible preachers as well.
While the path has changed a lot over the years, Vox remains a church committed to local cities and communities. And it’s been a marvel to see how explosively this community of faith has grown in such a short time! While it’s still growing out certain campuses, there are tons of community groups and opportunities to serve on a regular basis.
If there’s a con you’ll hear, it’s likely the lack of live preaching. I completely understand and do think it might be helpful to have more of it - whether that’s Justin moving around campuses or more campus pastor preaching. At the same time, it’s something every multi-site church works through, and Vox is very open to feedback. Definitely go check out the main locations and meet the leaders. After having the chance to learn more about the leaders, seeing them from behind a screen wasn’t as much of an obstacle.
All in all - this church has been such a blessing to both my wife and I at the perfect time in our lives. We’ve had the chance to meet lifelong friends, have family & friends be baptized!!!, tangibly help serve the needs of local communities and witness God move in extraordinary ways.
Review of Norwalk:
Dan and Kristi are two of the best people you will meet. They embody humility, are wise beyond their years (both in scripture and in general wisdom) and it has been an honor to know and serve under their leadership.
What I love about Norwalk (Greater Stamford) is it’s a tight-knit community of faith, where every set of hands plays a role. It’s a newer campus and one of the most diverse campuses at Vox, reflecting the local community.
If you’re still reading this - you definitely have to check it out!
