Beautiful church! The sanctuary itself is stunning, but what really surprised me was the huge event hall attached that is available for rental. It can be dressed up for just about anything weddings, receptions, banquets. I’m not Serbian Orthodox, but I had the good fortune to attend an event here, and it was wonderful. There’s a spacious cocktail area, a seriously impressive bar, and a large kitchen equipped with stoves and refrigeration that can handle a crowd. You can tell the space was designed with community gatherings in mind.
And speaking of gatherings the annual Serbian Festival in the fall is a can’t-miss. The food is incredible. You can literally smell it as you drive up the hill. Grilled meats, savory pastries, and desserts you’ll dream about afterward. If you’re looking for authentic hospitality and food that makes you close your eyes in happiness, this is the place.
Now, to address the head-scratchers who left negative reviews because they were upset it’s private property: It’s a church, not a public park. Religious sites across the country have had to increase security for obvious reasons, and St. Petka is no exception. Expecting to wander in uninvited for a picnic is like walking into someone’s backyard BBQ and demanding a plate you’ll just look silly. This is a community of faith, and their grounds are for worshippers and invited guests. Respect that, and when you are invited in, you’ll find a warm, welcoming community that knows how to celebrate.
If you’re lucky enough to attend an event here, enjoy it’s a gem.
