Having visited St Bartholomew Orthodox Church, I discovered this is an Orthodox Church in Chattanooga that holds fast to the traditions handed down to us from ancient times. One of the first things I noticed was the love that the parishioners had for one another and for the priest. The priest, Fr David, is a gifted speaker and story teller, and a genuinely solid man of faith. Fr David is a sincere and compassionate priest, (humble and humorous) who guides his flock with care and wisdom. Rarely will you find someone with such encyclopedic knowledge and hilarity wrapped into one neat package. He is a treasure (even though he jokes about being old enough to be a relic), but age is just a number, he has learned a childlike faith worthy of the kingdom!
We have four kids now and they really enjoy the Liturgy as well as spending time with the other kids their age at Church. This parish is growing and will continue to grow as more families discover the ancient Christian faith and the Orthodox Church.
This particular parish is Western Rite, meaning we observe the most ancient Liturgy available, that of St Gregory. Whether or not you are familiar with Western Rite, you will find much beauty and spiritual depth in this ancient Liturgy.
As far as activities throughout the week there is a Thursday night catechism, Saturday evening Vespers, Sunday morning Liturgy and Sunday School and a time of fellowship and coffee hour. If you are looking for a Church that does not change, but changes you to conform to the image of Christ, than you have come to the right place. Come and See! You won't regret it.
