My wife and I moved to Venice, FL, in December 2024, feeling disconnected and yearning for a sense of community. One difficult day, after an argument, my wife cried out to God while driving. As she passed Lift Church on Center Road, she felt God calling her. On January 19th, we attended our first service. I was skeptical, closed off, and critical of everything—the darkness, the long worship—yet my wife insisted we stay.
When she decided to join a women’s group, I pushed back. But she found a men’s group meeting at the same time called Gentle Warriors, reading Warrior: Men's Guide to Spiritual Victory. I joined reluctantly, but catching up on the book over a few days hit me hard. It exposed the many ways I wasn’t living as God calls us to live. That realization led me to surrender control and ask God to soften my heart—and He did. I weep now at the thought of Christ’s sacrifice for me. I feel empathy, love, and a deep longing to know Him more.
We no longer sit in the back row—we now sit front and center, fully engaged. I've since read multiple Christian books, stay daily in God’s Word, and am active in groups including Gentle Warriors, Pursuit, Women’s Discipleship (my wife), Loving Marriage: God’s Design, His Kingdom Seekers, the Worship Team, Maintenance and Safety Teams. I've even started a Bible study and launched our own small group, G.O.D. (Great Outdoors Devotional), to connect with others who find God in His creation.
Lift Church is more than a building—it’s a Spirit-led, Bible-based, Jesus-loving community that teaches us how to activate the Holy Spirit within. The people are the church, and they’ve shown us how deeply Jesus loves us. I thank God for bringing us to Lift and for each person who has embraced us as family. Our lives are now built on the firm foundation of Christ. 🙌 Thank you Lift Church! Thank you, Jesus!
