Sometimes it’s a matter of target marketing, while in other cases it is simply people finding their tribe. It becomes a third place, a neighborhood watering hole.
And that is precisely the vibe we felt on New Year’s Day and Riverwalk Pizzeria and Blue Springs Brewery. We could tell by the folks seated at the bar that they were no strangers, that this was where they came to have fun, drink beer, and watch sports. Although we were mere visitors, it was a comforting vibe, and we settled in at our high-top table for a relaxing evening.
My wife, a non-beer drinker, opted for the Chardonnay, while I dove in to their IPAs. But rather than do a flight as is my usual, I started with pints. More on that in a bit.
For dinner, my wife was content ordering off the appetizer menu, and went with the meat balls. Good thing she did, because they were the size of tennis balls and a very sufficient meal. I chose to build a pasta dish, sticking to basic noodles and marinara. A couple of rolls rounded out my plate. We were both content with our meals.
And now back to those beers! In no particular order, I had pints of River Dayz, Pine Island Trail, and the Superdelic SMASH, each of them an American IPA. It is refreshing to see a variety of IPAs on the menu, but also sticking to the basic American style. Sometimes all those hazy, mango-infused varietals become tiresome. These were delicious brews without pretense or hype.
All told, there are 20 house beers on the menu, and a plethora of food choices. I could see myself becoming a regular here. The vibe, the food, and the beer combined for a delightful evening.
