Went for our 25th wedding anniversary. We had reservations, greeted pleasantly, and were seated promptly. It was busy, but no wait in general for 6 PM. We reserved a table outside by the water. The noseeums didn't really start until sundown, and were less bad than we have experienced at other places in the area, so don't skip the waterfront dining!
Service was quick, but unobtrusive, Tess was great! We never had to wonder if she was ever coming back, but she also wasn't overly ambitious and hovering. We had nice chats when she came by with our different courses, was attentive, but far from overbearing. It was like having a personal chef prepare us dinner, served on our friend's deck, quiet and intimate.
Matt, the manager, came out to wish us a happy anniversary shortly after we were seated, with a champagne toast. He also returned shortly after we had finished our meal to ensure our experience was perfect.
Our starters were the pork shank and shrimp skewer. Both were fantastic, but be aware the shrimp has a little kick if you are sensitive to spicy. My wife is less of a spicy fan than myself, but she thoroughly enjoyed it. Next we had the soup du jour, a cream cauliflower soup with Asiago cheese. Each bite was noticeably cauliflower that faded into the cheesy side, a very enjoyable soup.
We both chose the fresh grouper feature, fresh off the boat. We both had a generous portion of grouper perched atop yellow rice with amazing flavor, with a fresh corn blend under the rice and a drizzle around the edge of sauce. Micro greens and a few small bits of flowers on top added elegance. Everything was cooked perfectly, and each layer completed the others.
On a side note, I am generally more prone to leave negative reviews on restaurants because, well, many aren't very good, and i like to warn people before they blow $100. No warnings here. Brian's Place has become one of our go-to, two thumbs up, short list places ,and this was our first visit there. DO NOT MISS THIS GEM!
This review is totally unsolicited, and I don't review every place we go. Generally, it's the really good or bad. We are first time customers, and I feel reviews that give more information than "it's ok/good/bad/other" actually help others. Already looking forward to our next visit.
