The Countdown Begins
Wow, was this game amazing! We scored touchdowns on each of our first seven drives, so narrowing it down to a top three plays was very difficult. Nevertheless, the 3rd best UGA play of the week belongs to:
Darnell Washington
Darnell Washington’s hurdle against Oregon was a play that made grown men gasp. Washington is 6 foot 7, over some of the most fit men on the planet and moving with the grace of a track-star. Washington’s hurdle proves that UGA has the best tight end depth in the nation. Washington isn’t even our best tight end, and yet, he was still able to embarrass a top ranked defense on national television.
Week 1: UGA Tightend Darnell Washington with an incredible hurdle
Malaki Starks
Malaki Starks is a true freshman, and what’s even more crazy is that Starks is the first true freshman defensive back to get an interception in his first game. This is quite the feat considering Georgia’s tenure of great defense throughout its years, especially under Kirby Smart. Not only that, but Stark’s interception was truly impressive. The throw was not a bad one by any means by Bo Nix, Stark was just in perfect coverage and in perfect position to make a play on the ball, and he made an amazing catch to force a turnover for Georgia.
Week 1: Malaki Starks makes an acrobatic interception
Stetson Bennett
Now I know a lot of people were unhappy last year with Bennett starting (I may or may not have been one of those people), but he surprised a lot of people and has actually been playing very well. Now with time running down in the second it was first and goal and the pressure was getting to him. He escaped the pocket trying to find an outlet to throw it to but the pressure was right in his face. In a split second decision he makes a true veteran move and throws a touchdown to the open wide receiver, a move that a lot of NFL quarterbacks would not be able to make in the heat of the moment. If I’m being honest we should just hand him the Heisman already!
Week 1: Stetson Bennett channels his inner Lamar Jackson
