Mama’s Boy

Back when my sister went to the University of Georgia, she would take me to Mama’s Boy when I visited. Mama’s Boy has giant biscuits that overflow with toppings such as egg and cheese. They also have this homemade raspberry jam for those who like to go more of the plain route with their biscuits. When my sister and I went there, they had this jar at the front of their store with small pieces of paper in them. When we were done eating we would pick one up and there would be sayings written on them like “a flower only grows where it is watered”. It was definitely cheesy but it was a simple thing that would always make us smile.  

Not too long ago, Mama’s boy opened up a second location in Athens because of how busy they were getting. They had too many people and not enough biscuits. Thankfully, now with their second location, everyone is able to get served and enjoy this southern delicacy. Their original location is on 197 Oak Street. If eating at this location, it may remind you of your grandma’s old house with its decorative wall paper and mason jars. Their second location is on 8851 Macon Highway. This location has more of a modernized southern look to it. Try both locations to find out which one you prefer! They are open daily from 7 am to 2:30 pm. 

The Farm Cart

This past fall when my boyfriend had football practice everyday, they would serve breakfast to the team. A lot of times, it would be biscuits. Sometimes after a workout, he would bring me one and I always thought that they were so good but neither one of us knew where they were from. What makes this story funnier is that I am a vegetarian so before he would give me one of these biscuits, he would take the sausage off of it and play it off like they had egg and cheese ones. It did not take me long to realize what he was doing when I began to notice imprints of a sausage patty on my egg. A while later, my mom came up to visit and we decided to try a new breakfast place called Farm Cart. When we went there, I recognised the biscuits from the football breakfasts. This solved the mystery and now that my boyfriend is off the team, we go there all the time. 

Farm cart serves specialty biscuits that fit all sorts of dietary needs. My favorite is the veggie which is one of their flaky buttermilk biscuits with eggs, arugula, cheddar cheese, and avocado aioli. Farm Cart is located on 1074 Baxter Street. They are open from 8 am to 2 pm everyday except Monday. 

Flying Biscuit Cafe

Flying Biscuit Cafe is the perfect place for a Sunday brunch. They are a chain, but they give off the same vibes as a local breakfast place would. Their staff is always friendly and their food is always good. The best part about this place is that they serve breakfast all day everyday, and have been for the last 29 years. They have locations in Georgia, Alabama, Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina, and Texas. With so many locations, they have created a nation-wide fanbase. The Flying Biscuit Cafe is so popular that they bake close to 5,000 biscuits per week at each one of their 28 locations. With a name like flying biscuit, they have to serve amazing biscuits. 

The Flying Biscuit Cafe is located on 1180 Prince Avenue and they are open everyday from 7 am to 4 pm. I recommend going there and trying out their biscuits with one of their delicious egg plates like the Egg-Stravaganza. It is so good! 

With so many breakfast places to choose from in Athens, Georgia, it can be hard to find one that serves fantastic biscuits.
