Been here several times in the past but after recently moving back into the neighborhood my husband and I decided to walk up and check out the Sunday Funday brunch.
First, the menu prices need to be adjusted online as the mimosa flight is $15, not $12 as advertised here (online). So, given inflation across the board I’ll give it a pass. But here’s the thing for gastropubs like this-your service needs to match price increase. I’ll elaborate in a bit…
The mimosa flight was great-cute n classy in their stemless small glasses. Nice variety. The Champear was perfect : bubbly with a pear cognac and only $10.
We ordered the short rib hash to share (kept the menu to order something else if it was good). It was better than okay but lacked flavor! A dish of poached eggs w hollandaise sauce over the rib hash, roasted potatoes and charred bread. It needed salt and some kind of sauce.
Our server just took our orders and served the first round of drinks and the entree. Never checked back with us to ask how the dish was or if she could get us anything else. We had to ask two other people for service: for salt and pepper and ketchup or Cholula. They gave us S&P and their house Habernero sauce. This is the sauce that needs to be served with this dish! It was so good!
Back to the service: the place wasn’t packed. Our server had two other tables besides ours, from what I could tell. And as I mentioned earlier she just took our orders and served. But for the management of this restaurant: Prices have gone up so you need to reiterate to your staff that they must provide service to match. The very basic is introduce, get the drink orders-gauge to see if your guests are ready to order food, serve the drinks and food and CHECK IN to see how everything is! Doing below this and expectations of tips at 18%?? No.
Of course we tipped btw but not as much as we would’ve if the service was at least basic.
