Norbertines from St. Michael's Abbey have come to Springfield! Check out the daily schedule on the website and come for Mass or Adoration!
A bit about the Norbertine community: this is a group of "canons regular" (priests living by a religious rule but ministering in the world) whose home community is based in California. St. Michael's Abbey in Orange County is booming because of their beautiful, reverent liturgy, frequent offering of the sacraments, and a flood of young men seeking to become Norbertine priests. They were invited by the Bishop of Springfield to minister in this beautiful old church, which was once home to a community of Franciscans that (as I understand it) has grown too small to maintain it alone.
Accessing the church is little strange at present, as it looks like it was designed for a strictly monastic community ... So until they create a public entrance, you have to enter the monastery through what looks like a hotel lobby and elevator to get in. It's well worth figuring out though ... A beautiful treasure opened up for the faithful to see and experience!
I was very glad I stopped here when passing through Springfield. If you are a Catholic of ANY persuasion or liturgical preference, you owe it to yourself to visit, meet these good priests, and receive the sacraments here.
