I originally came to Erin for help with pain in my right knee during walking - one very specific symptom.
Her evaluation showed that I had alignment and posture issues as well as restricted range of motion in my shoulders (especially during overhead reaches). Her analysis was "spot on." I had not realized that I was compensating for my lack of range of motion with incorrect posture and arching my back to achieve overhead movement. And these compensations affected my hip alignment thus creating much of my knee pain.
Within a few sessions using targeted massage and stretching, my symptoms improved. During our sessions, she also detected an underlying issue related to internal scar tissue from an early-age surgery.
In addition to continuing to correct my alignment and range of motion, we have also worked on myofascial release of the scar tissue. It has been a surprise to me, but this myofascial work has been beneficial for all aspects of my posture, range of motion, and even digestion and swallowing.
I would never have self-identified these issues. I think doctors tend to focus their evaluation on one area of specialty rather than a holistic view of the entire body.
Working with Erin has been an eye-opening journey increasing my own understanding as well as solving several issues that have improved my overall health, posture, range of motion and structural stability in all situations.
I don't believe that I could have found a better person to help me. My journey started by searching for pain relief. I have found that relief and much more. My body is now able to move better and perform strenuous exercise with the proper alignment and stability that allows me to avoid pain and injury.
Don't limit your focus to one issue. Get help to look for the contributing factors and compensations that are certainly related to your symptoms.
