Paid before the massage and left a 10% tip on the tip line. I did find it a little unusual to be paying beforehand. The lady told me my tip was too small! And to at least give 20% like I would a restaurant, as she stood there waiting for me to adjust it. Mind you, it's an $88 massage already. Unbelievable. I would have left then, but I drove and already paid and did not want further confrontation. I exclaimed that I was not comfortable and that I would maybe leave a cash tip after the massage took place. The lady said it's OK, mentioning that I'm new there...
If you are going to demand tips like that, why not just raise your prices instead? I'm a tipper, but do they really expect every person will tip? You are paying for the agreed service and should feel no further obligation. Tips are usually left afterward anyway.
I don't appreciate getting pressured or guilted when paying for an expensive massage. The place left a bad taste in my mouth - and the smell there isn't so great either.
The following day I did have some pimple breakouts in a few areas where the massage took place. I don't know if it was the oil or dirty towel. I won't be back. Perhaps it's a one off situation or one person who behaves like this, but other places earn bigger tips for exceptional service and care.
