Daycare for Dogs Or Hotel?
I would strongly reconsider staying at the Hampton Inn located at 201 East Bay Street in Savannah, Georgia. Upon entering the lobby, the overwhelming smell of dog urine is impossible to ignore. The hotel resembles a doggy daycare more than a place for travelers, with as many four-legged guests as humans. Unfortunately, cleanliness is not a priority here. The wood floors in the lobby are visibly dirty, and the overall atmosphere is unpleasant.
The issues didn’t stop in the lobby. The room I stayed in on the 6th floor initially appeared clean, but upon settling in, it was clear the room was far from it. The carpet desperately needed a deep cleaning, with visible dirt and debris scattered on the floor. The bathroom was particularly appalling, with dried urine on the floor near the base of the toilet and hair in both the bathroom and the shower. The lack of attention to cleanliness extended to the bedding as well—none of the pillows had covers, adding to the discomfort and dissatisfaction.
The hotel’s two elevators open directly into the cleaning crew’s storage areas, and these doors were often left open, disrupting elevator functionality. The hallways leading to the rooms are carpeted, but the carpets appear neglected, with visible dirt suggesting they haven’t been vacuumed in days, if not weeks. The cleaning crew frequently occupied elevators with large carts, showing little regard for guests’ convenience or comfort, further reflecting poor training and management.
Overall, this was by far one of the dirtiest and most poorly maintained hotels I have stayed at. The pervasive smell of urine, lack of cleanliness, and general disregard for hospitality made for an unpleasant stay. My daughter couldn’t stop coughing, likely due to the number of dogs and the strong odor in the lobby. To make matters worse, the staff was unprofessional, often short and rude, whether in person or on the phone.
If you're considering staying here, I strongly urge you to look at other options. There are similarly priced hotels in the area that offer much cleaner, more hospitable accommodations. This location is in dire need of deep cleaning, proper maintenance, and extensive hospitality training for its staff.
