We spent a lot of time carefully measuring fridges to find one that could fit in the slot we have in our older house. Once we had found one, we made sure it could pass through our front door, and the frame into the kitchen. I spent a lot of time with a sales person at Lowes, returned back to Lowes the day before delivery to ensure that the delivery drivers were willing to remove the doors of the fridge to get it in, and was told by the sales people that the doors would be removed as that is standard practice.
We purchased a GE 24.8-cu ft French Door Refrigerator that measured at 30" depth without the door and handle. However the product specifications online say the depth measures at 30.625.
Our doorframe measured at 31", and working with the sales rep I pointed out that despite the larger product measurement, the fridge only measured at 30" without the door (Online the 30.635 includes the seal, although it is actually attached to the doors, not the frame). They assured me if they can fit it into the door, they would deliver it.
Fast forward to the day of delivery - they refused delivery stating the frame isn't wide enough. When measuring, they didn't even hold the tape completely against the frame, and took a picture. I insisted that despite the box saying 31" it doesn't measure that large, and to take the fridge out and check. They said they couldn't take it out of the box unless they could deliver, and they would bring it up to the front of the house, but I would be required to move the fridge the rest of the way and reassemble the doors on my own.
We called Lowes Customer Service and they confirmed that the box measurements were larger than the actual product dimensions, and that that's the box width, not the fridge width. They had apologized and said they'll reschedule delivery, as the 1-800 number insisted we were right that the fridge would fit.
I then received a call from the local warehouse delivery number of 724-218-7161. The woman was mostly nice and apologetic, but she insisted her drivers were right based on the pictures (however I told her over and over again her drivers weren't attempting to properly measure the frame) she then told me they require an Inch on each side of the door for the fridge to go through, despite nobody at the Lowes telling us that, and had insisted if it fits through the door frame, they deliver.
I ended up buying the exact same fridge from Don's Appliances, told them the exact issue I had. They said if it could fit through the door they'd deliver and they did. Just go with Don's.
