I've never been to an actual cheese shop before but had always wanted to visit one. The staff greeted us as soon as we walked in the store. Any meat or cheese that we showed interest in, we were offered a sample first. The staff also suggested cheeses based off of what we already like. I actually was brave enough to try a soft goat cheese after having a rather bad experience with goat cheese years ago. I learned that not all cheese is created equal.
I will say for those who are like me and are use to getting cheese out a grocery store, some of the prices were kind of eye watering at first. But I had to remind myself that this was quality cheese. For example, my husband got a provolone that was quite salty, in a good way. We both as the provolone we've had before was mild in flavor, to say the least. This provolone was anything but. We got a half pound each of 2 different cheeses (the above mentioned provolone and parmesan) and a half a pound of prosciutto.
Really, the only downside that I can think of is that the store is quite narrow. However that's to be expected in an old historical city like Charleston. We are definitely going back the next time we are in the area.
