PSALM 63:1 Says Oh God, you are my God, earnestly I seek you, my soul thirsts for you, my body longs for you, in a dry and weary land where there is no water.
Seeking God! I had to learn the hard way what that really meant. Living as a PK (preachers kid) was not picnic, but I'll spare you most of the details because as I now know through AA and Celebrate Recovery, It's NOT about me.
It's about God, our savior, our Lord, our father, redeemer, and friend. Most of my life was spent searching for things that were not of God, which led me down paths that I care not remember.
After 3 failed marriages, my life changed and this is where life truly began. Let me not get too carried away with ME, because like I said, it's not about me, it's about him.
Among all the other things in life lately, I have been searching for a HOME, a church and place to be accepted, not to be judged, not to be looked at as a “bank” to support a new church building or new musical equipment.
After spending 8 years overseas with my husband in Central America, I began to see the worth in people, verses things.
For almost 6 months in 2024, we prayed, yearned and searched for this “home” yet came up feeling empty or let down in more ways than you can imagine.
For the life of me, I honestly cannot remember how we found this church, this church that wasn't like a church, a church that dint have a brand new building, a church with no fancy musical equipment, a church where people didn't sit in pews but one where we all connected together at tables.
This church, THE WELL, I cannot begin to explain the closeness that my husband and I began to feel here. Even the first day we were greeted as if we mattered, as if someone really cared about us as people not as a Credit Card. Where homeless and the least of these interacted with the “normal” people, and I say that loosely as none of us are normal.
A church where there is NO judgment for who you are, how you look, what you wear, drive, or where you come from. A place where the Holy Spirit is so alive that you can honestly feel the presence each time the worship begins.
A pastor who bows before the Lord in reverence at the alter during worship and a worship team (of 2) who worship stronger than any living band I have ever heard.
A church who feeds the needs of the community by giving free showers to the homeless every week and never asks for anything in return. A place where you can come to get free food and see people who are actually glad to be there to serve with a smile.
A church where baptisms are a time of worshiping God even at 50 degrees outside and there are no excuses as to why they can't do it.
A place where I, as a recovering alcohol, 24 years, can walk in and say '”IM HOME” every week and a place where I am not ashamed to bring people to share, or embarrassed.
God is so faithful to guide and to lead all of us if we are just willing to listen to his voice.
Now, I don't know much about Pastor Tone and Missy just yet on the personal side, but all I can say is I like what I see and hear so far.
Their passion and willingness to help and to give 100% of themselves to this community of Jacksonville blows my mind.
After seeing how this pastor too has been in recovery and the assistant pastor Jesse and how real and dedicated they are to God and this community, I cannot imagine going anywhere else.
If you're lost, seeking, tired, burned out, or just want a change of the so called “church scene” and want to avoid the whole “mega church” scene, my advice is give it a try.
The name which was given to this church is so fitting. When the woman was at the Well in the Bible, Jesus says to her, do you want this water or do you want my living water? She didn't understand until Jesus explained it to her.
Tone, as a pastor you are doing incredible things in Jacksonville, Florida and although, selfishly I pray this church stays this size, whatever God has for the vision for your life, I pray you achieve it with his grace, mercy and love.
Let's go to the WELL and receive the gift.
