In 2017 I began having pain in my back and ribs. My primary care physician thought my problem was ligaments between my ribs and attempted to adjust them. Pain proceeded to get worse and within a week I couldn’t be touched by anyone without experiencing excruciating pain. After may blood tests, X-rays, cat scans, pet scans, a diagnosis was still not positive. I was advised to see an oncologist. Diagnosis had gone from one day I was told I had cancer to it being changed the next day to you don’t. The unknown was unbearable. My sons looked into oncologists who they believed would be the best for me and within a distance I could physically travel to for diagnosis and possibly treatment. One name stood out among all oncologists in my area, Dr Anna at Vita Medical. My husband, son from out of the state and daughter accompanied me to my first appointment. She could not believe the condition I was in within one week of the onset of pain. She quickly ordered more tests which confirmed her suspicion that I did have cancer, but only a bone marrow biopsy would confirm a diagnosis. Confirmation came quickly and a treatment plan put into action. I endured high quantities of chemotherapy, closely administered and followed by my team of professionals as to side affects both physically and mentally. The support I received has been unmeasurable, day or night. I was also sent to Philadelphia for a consultation concerning a stem cell transplant. I opted to trust Dr Anna treatment plan and endured 6 months of treatment. It wasn’t easy for sure, but because of her, the nurses, the treatment plan, support of my family and her never ending educating herself on néw and advanced treatments for my rare type of cancer would I be alive today. I went from a woman with 99% of her bones having fractures in December 2018 to a woman who exercises twice a week, is in remission for the past two years and even knowing that this cancer is incurable, I thank God, Dr. Anna and her team of amazing nurses and staff, my husband for all the hours and days of taking care of all my needs, my family for their daily calls and prayers and true friends for their prayers and support for saving my life and giving me more time on this earth with my loved ones. I am now on a maintenance program which she monitors very closely and it is working. My oncologist in Philadelphia calls me a miracle patient who should be the poster adult for this type of cancer. His approach would have been different he said but whatever you are doing, keep doing it because it is working! If you have or think you may have cancer, don’t wait, call Dr Anna and make an appointment! Your life depends on what decisions you make. Make the right one, you will not be disappointed.
