Hi all, I normally would not vent on this site, BUT here goes. My family and I are caring for our 80 year old aunt who is in her right mind. Circumstances have required that she be placed in a nursing facility. She was sent to Chateau Living Center from the hospital. She arrived here Monday at approximately 4:30pm. When we arrived everyone was nice and welcoming.
Now I don’t prejudge people or situations. I’ve heard stories of nursing home abuse and neglect, but i decided I would remain positive. WELL, when we got to the room, I had to request furniture that I was told would be in place. Maintenance told me the family would have to supply a dresser because they don’t have anymore and threw the old ones out. On to the bed, we all know hospital and nursing home beds raise up and down, you can raise and lower your head and feet. Well, this particular bed was broken. The head would not raise. Did I mention my aunt is 80? She cannot lay flat due to difficulty breathing. The maintenance man said, “I’m about to leave”. Naturally, I said in a gentle tone, “what is she to do”. I was told to wait until tomorrow morning. Now y’all know at this point, I am trying really hard to contain my inner Kenneth. Anywho, they were able to fix the bed. My aunt cried and said she didn’t like being in the facility. We left very emotional.
Next morning, my aunt calls to say she woke up to someone standing over her just staring. We are not sure if this was a staff member or patient resident. We reported the incident and nothing occurred.
This morning at 4:30am my aunt calls to tell me a CNA was extremely rough with her. They threw her legs in the bed with no regard to her pain levels. Her phone fell on the floor in the process. My aunt asked them to hand it to her. They placed the phone out of her reach.
I arrived at 10am this morning 8/2/23. I went directly to the admissions office and told them I am removing her from the facility. It is now 11:15am, I have packed all her belongings and paid the bill. NOT ONE PERSON INQUIRED ABOUT WHY I AM REMOVING HER!
Lesson learned: Pray and do your due diligence when you are told we will place your loved one a certain facility.
This is new for my family and I, we have reached out to various people and agencies seeking out resolutions.
Thanks for letting me vent. Through the grace and mercy of God we are able to place her in another facility closer to home. YES! We vetted the facility!
