Can i just start by saying highway 1 brewing is the place to be on a cold sunny sunday. The instant you walk in, you feel a sort of magic—celebration of the day. My friend and I stumbled in off of a pretty euphoric morning bike ride up the coast hoping to put a little sustenance in our bodies. Much to our surprise, we saw fish n chips on their menu, and knew what had to be done. Ordered a fish n chips and two highway1 beers. Some of you may know me, Sonali, one of the most trusted fish and chips critics in the states. I wouldn’t say I am the wisest conisseur, but I do know my fair share about a dank fish n chips (I worked on a fish and chips food truck pretty full time for a year). While we waited for our food the átomosphere lit up by the midday sun and my beer, turned to this excited mess of words flowers blur. There may as well have been a band behind the kind server as he walked our fish and chips outside—it was a glorious moment. Ok, i’ll start by describing the plate—fries (i can’t call them chips because they weren’t doused in malt vinegar), cocktail sauce (questionable choice? for f+c), tarter sauce(pretty good—wish it was a little more acidic), a lemon #essential, and the fish. Their fish tasted fresh, clean, not greasy. Honestly my favorite part was the fish, i would come back just for that. The fries were chill, there was malt vinegar packets at the table i put on but it’s just not the same—i wish the kitchen put on the vinegar, so yeah, chill fries. The experience was 10/10 though that food, and drink, and the sun🫠y’all if you’re driving on the once and your lucky enough to pass highway 1 brewing at a time that they are open, stop in! It’s pretty unreal
