Whenever I see a painting over $100 my brain says “why”. Why would anyone spend that much money on art? You could buy every single streaming service for a full year instead. Filmmaking is an art…how could one painting compare to thousands and thousands of shows and movies?
I don’t know, maybe I’m just jealous. Jealous that a painting can’t emotionally move me to the point where I feel like it’s necessary to drop $100. I’ve never experienced that before and don’t know if I ever will. These streaming services might be part of the problem. They set the bar so high. I’ve given so much time and emotional energy to these films and shows, maybe I have nothing left to give these $100 paintings. These movies are trying so hard to make me feel a certain way with their music, filming, acting, and words. I don’t want to be told how to feel, I just want to feel. Maybe that’s what these $100 paintings are trying to do for me. I need to start watching more paintings. I got to prove to myself that I don’t need an award winning dramatic film to show myself I have feelings… I just need to find the right painting. Anyway, I didn’t buy the $100 painting from here, but maybe I’ll appreciate more next time.
