First and foremost, the prices are absolutely ridiculous. New games are often marked up beyond retail value, and the used games are overpriced for their condition—many are scratched, damaged, or missing cases. It feels like they’re trying to charge premium prices for products that barely meet the standards of what you’d expect at a reputable store.
The customer service is another issue. Employees rarely seem knowledgeable about the products they’re selling. If you ask for recommendations or information about new releases, you often get blank stares or vague responses. It’s clear the staff is more focused on pushing memberships and accessories than actually helping you find the games you want.
Moreover, their trade-in offers are a joke. If you're looking to sell or trade in your old games, be prepared to get pennies on the dollar. GameStop offers laughable trade-in values for games that are still in excellent condition, and then turns around and sells them for much higher prices.
Finally, the in-store atmosphere is lacking. The stores are often cluttered and disorganized, and the layout feels outdated. It’s hard to find what you’re looking for, and the overall shopping experience feels like an afterthought.
At this point, GameStop is a shadow of its former self. With overpriced products, poor customer service, and a lack of genuine interest in the gaming community, it’s no wonder why many gamers are turning to other retailers or online stores. I’ll definitely be avoiding GameStop in the future.
