The LORD led me and my best friend to New Springs Church as we prayerfully sought out mentorship and other Christian men to be around and learn from. That was January of 2021.
This church family have without a doubt been true brothers and sisters in Christ to me. If there is sin issue I need to work on, they confront me out of love. When I confessed to them that my prayer life was shot, some of my brothers in Christ from New Springs checked in on me every couple of days (if not daily) to make sure I had spoken to my Heavenly Father that day. Unlike the mega church I attended in the past, who had other youth leaders (as I was also) encourage me in my sin so that they didn’t have to confront their own, my brothers and sisters here at New Springs encourage me in sanctification. To know King Jesus on a deeper level, and to better reflect His image to our community.
We also don’t agree on every doctrinal issue! I wasn’t a Presbyterian when I started serving here, and I’m still not. I’m technically a Baptist. But I understand the Presbyterian position, and I have grown to accept and love that there can be a middle group between the two positions. That’s just one example. The pastors and I disagree on a lot! Both doctrinally and politically. But we don’t disagree on anything salvific. Nothing that should separate us as brothers. And therefore, we don’t separate as brothers. And despite some of my doctrinal views, I am still accepted and loved as a brother in Christ.
Pastors Gavin and Jimmy are there for us, and take seriously their call to shepherd the flock. They preach uncomfortable things when it needs to be heard, and they make what God has said in His Word the first priority. The focus is set on expanding God’s Kingdom. Not establish our own kingdoms. To Be Satisfied in God, and to love His people. Not to find false satisfaction in sin, and to “love myself”.
This church may not have all the laser lights, fog machines, flashy shows and feel good messages. But this church does have one thing that trumps the rest that I’ve mentioned.... faithfulness.
